Some manufactures have museums full of old cars you can’t get near, others have sold off the back catalogue when times were tight. And Nissan? Nissan keeps the lot, keeps them running, and lets you get up close and personal with them!

This all happens in the Zama Heritage Car Garage, in Japan, where hundreds of Nissans (and Datsuns) from the company’s 90-year history are lovingly looked after.

There are diddy cars from the early years, tech-laden concepts, all manner of wonderful rally and race cars, plus Skylines and GT-Rs galore.

Join Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, for a tour of this amazing place…

Which of Nissan’s treasures is your favourite?

I find it fascinating how Nissan went from making subpar garbage JDM cars like these to stunning masterpieces like the Juke and Murano CrossCabriolet 😍

That police car is named Prowl and he happens to be one of Optimus' most loyal autobots, thank you very much

In terms of rarity for r34 GTRs, the Z-tune is really the pinnacle.

Considering the price of a lot of the JDM legends now, it would really make sense for the Japanese brands to licence the production of replicas. Like how a lot of old Ford's muscle cars are done.

The 240z police car is actually a vehicle used by the Kanagawa police, not in Tokyo.

I rode around in an 85’ Datsun pickup. It was 4x4 manual transmission, extended cab (I remember sitting sideways in the back jump seats) and very very brown with Datsun script in cream on the tailgate. That thing was a beast and could go places I didn’t think vehicles could go.

I love these videos of car collections or museums in other countries. Esp. when they are not really known to the public, best part is they are free. I had the good chance of going to the Subaru STi museum in Japan, it was through YT I discovered it and it was free as well. It was a fantastic experience. Looking forward to visiting this place as well.

Love this! Nissan and the other Japanese manufacturers classic cars often get over looked because people are looking at the German and Italian stuff

Nice to see this heritage and little reminder of what Nissan have done and can do! Nismo Ariya just been announced so let’s keep the momentum going

It hurts my soul knowing Nissan stepped away from motorsport just before the current Golden era really began...hope they come back.

I'd take a pristine rally 240z over many a hypercar these days. Heres why.... potholes, speedbumps & draconian new car laws. It also helps that it's beautiful and full of character.

Great too see the G60 Patrol featured, every bit as iconic as the Landrover and Landcruiser on the off beaten tracks of the world. The Patrol nameplate is Nissans oldest, 70 years old and counting.

With the recent remodel of the Honda Collection Hall. This in my opinion is the best manufacturer museum in Japan
