For years the Spanish economy has been booming but now the recession has hit hard. Recent figures show that Spain could be the next country to slide into the dangerous spiral of debt deflation.
Unemployment in Spain has hit 14% and the collapse of the real estate market has brought the rest of the country down with it. ‘Only Iceland has more deficit than us, and we know what has happened with Iceland’ explains an opposition spokesman. But it’s hitting immigrants the hardest, one unemployed construction worker explains ‘Thank God I'm receiving unemployment benefits…immigrants for example, they don't have those benefits.’
