Lagerwey Modular Steel Tower

The higher the wind turbine, the more energy it produces and the more stable its production. This is due to higher wind speeds and less turbulence in higher air layers. In order to be able to make ever higher masts, Lagerwey developed the Modular Steel Tower. An ingenious system of modular steel sheets that can be installed up to any height.

Efficient design
Lagerwey's MST invention has proven its efficiency for many years. The design is based on 12 metre high steel sheets. Compared to concrete/steel tower components, steel sheets are very light. In this way, Lagerwey is able to transport the sheets on a regular truck, meaning that there is no need for specialised transport and that the number of transport movements is reduced by 75 percent. Transport by container is also possible, as the sheets meet the standard dimensions for container transport.

Once at the building site, no crane is required to unload the steel sheets. This will save time and money. After unloading, the sheets are assembled to become tower sections by means of special pre-stressed bolts. Together, these will form the slender mast that is so typical for a Lagerwey wind turbine.

To illustrate: only 19 transportations of sheets are required in order to install a 135 metre high mast. Compare this to the 80 transportations that are required for a concrete/steel construction.

Recycling
A great benefit of the MST is that the environmental burden is significantly reduced due to the reduced number of transport movements compared to a concrete/steel tower. The greatest benefit, however, can be found in the disassembly of the MST. The complete mast can be recycled. This is not only better for the environment, but also ensures a large saving in costs at the end of the wind turbine's life span.
