Two German naval vessels are navigating through the Taiwan Strait, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on Friday (September 13), becoming the first German naval vessels to do so in 22 years.

China, which claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own, says only it exercises sovereignty and jurisdiction over the strait. Both the United States and Taiwan say the strait - a major trade route through which about half of global container ships pass - is an international waterway.

Speaking in Berlin, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said he could confirm the passage of the frigate "Baden-Wuerttemberg" and supply ship "Frankfurt am Main."

"International waters are international waters. It's the shortest and, given the weather conditions, the safest route. So we are passing through," he said.

Taiwan's defence ministry declined immediate comment.

A security source familiar with the situation said the ships would likely fully clear the strait on Saturday.

Speaking in Beijing before the transit was confirmed on Friday, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said it condemned excuses for infringing China's sovereignty.

We need to submit again our case to the International Law to the ONCLUS in Hague.

We need to tell to the Court of Arbitration the harassment, bullying, water cannoning, ramming of ships to Philippine ships.

The damages to Philippine ships committed by Chinese ships. They should be fined for the damages.

Jesus, I trust in you 💗 💓

By Germany sailing through the Taiwan Strait confirms that Taiwan is NOT part of China. Period

There is no ambiguity it is documented legal fact.

If Taiwan was part of China then foreign warships would require permission from the CCP to sail through the region.

These freedom of navigation drills through the international waters of the strait confirms, that there are no internationally recognized treaties, policies, agreements or UN resolutions that declare that Taiwan is part of China

All civil ships have been through the Taiwan Strait without any problems since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Why should German war ships present over there?

Is the area of 35 nautical miles from a continent of country international water?

German defences itself in the Taiwan Strait. Ha, ha, a little far away, isn't it? But the whole world now know, that even Germany has war ships really.
