Panasonic GH6 Firmware 2.0 Impressions

The first major update for the Panasonic GH6 has arrived, and it's all about ProRes. ProRes Raw external recording, as well as additional resolutions for internal ProRes recording are now available.

BIG agreement on ProRes LT options. As much as I realize Panasonic likes their own 422 10 bit and 420 10 bit recording options, they are really tough to work with in post. Prores LT is an absolute dream in post, and it would make the workflow for quick turns sooo much better.

The video out of this thing is amazing. And the AF is finally good enough, no matter what the haters say. Plus future FW updates which are always nice from Panasonic. Now let's get a G10/G9II without the fan, with the same sensor, minus a few video options and with more photo features and it's game on.

What folks seem to forget is that contrast autofocus is the most accurate (google it if you don’t believe me), but as such it takes a (tiny) bit longer than phase…so works best for stills and in video for things not moving too much. Sony uses phase focus (at the start) and then once about right switches to contrast. Panasonic seems to have improved their version of contrast almost to the point where it works essentially as well and likely cheaper to build. Still a combination of both would be welcome for those of us who don’t use manual focus too often in video, though perhaps we should learn like you guys…. Always enjoy your videos!

I would love to see reviews for the most sophisticated cell phones out there. A cell isn't going to replace a great camera but it does do alot especially in great lighting situations

Still waiting on that SSD record option. One of the reasons I switched from the GH5 to the 6. But adding BRAW to it would be an absolutely insane upgrade.
