The World Famous, Glenn Miller Orchestra, the most popular and sought after big band in the world today for both concert and swing dance engagements. With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time. The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world. Erik Stabnau is the orchestra’s present music director.

My big brother Joe grew up during the Big Band era. His favorite band was the Glenn Miller band, and his favorite tune was Moonlight Serenade. That tune became Joe’s theme song. It was even played at his funeral Mass. When Joe passed in 2005 at age 69, my sister took Joe’s 3 daughters around town making final arrangements. At the end of the day, my sister took the girls to dinner across the street from the cemetery, their final stop. The restaurant had a miniature juke box at every table. As the somber group of 4 walked through the restaurant door, Moonlight Serenade began to play. My sister immediately turned to my nieces and told them “That’s your dad letting you know that he’s OK.” Eerie! How often do you hear Moonlight Serenade being played anymore at a Mexican restaurant no less.
