If you live in their territory, and you are kind to them, they don’t swoop you. They are not dangerous. They are just protecting their offspring.

They are the Australian bird of the year. The maggie’s have great personalities. My wife talks to them when she is weeding the garden - they hang around for grubs etc. when it is nesting season she can walk through the park at the side of our place and never gets swooped. They have amazing visual memories and are very self assured.

Maggies are great birds and friendly if you befriend them. They only swoop when they are protecting babies in their nest.

That was the perfect opportunity to hand feed them. Treat them kind and they’ll be your friends for life. They are highly intelligent and remember faces. They won’t swoop you if you feed them. I have at least three who turn up every year and they eat out of my hand.

I hated/feared them for years after being attacked by magpies long ago when I was 5 or so, dashing to an outhouse 🤠. This went on for ages, one even chased little me into the house once.
I must have thrown something at one.
I learned to tolerate them and grew to love them.
Highly intelligent, can recognize faces, and seem to have generational memory.I have made my peace, my notification sound on the phone is a magpie warble. It's great to hear outside the window in the morning, much better than traffic.

We had a Currawong or Maggie knock at our door, it wanted food for its chick who was whinging sending it mum crazy and us too, we don’t usually feed the wildlife but we tossed it’s some meat 🥩 and mum fed it and they all went away…❤

I feed the Maggie’s at my place and I never get swooped.. I call them and they flying in for their bit of dog roll 😂

Dangerous unless you feed them. That way during chick season they see you as a source of food, not predator.

It was tryong to scam you out of the bread by pretending to be injured. Most tourists fall for this trick.

They are smart, if you put money next to food and feed them, then take the money away when you aren't feeding them, they will BRING you money to get a food reward.
