This is an edited portion of a longer livestream show with guest patent attorney Jerry Liu. Attorney Liu graduated from Georgia Tech with a bachelor's and masters degree in Electrical Engineering. He attended Emory law school on a full scholarship and became partner at prestigious law firms around Atlanta. He has also been in house counsel to major corporations. In this brief segment, he explains the "prestige factor" in the legal profession. Youtube and Tiktok Harvard law school grad CeCe Xie has explained many times why and how the ranking of one's law school is important, to the dismay and even anger of some pre-law, law students, and law school graduates. On this channel, Judy the YouTube Lawyer has similarly gotten criticism for being "condescending" and "elitist" in her remarks about certain law schools and the legal profession. What do you think?

Love the headline! Pre-law and law students continue to be in denial that rankings and prestige matter in the legal profession. Mainly because they just want their law school "dreams" to come true, despite what their actual circumstances may be.

As much as many wish to discount the importance of your college/university, the truth is that it matters. Even in my field, the fact that I attended a top tier university has afforded me opportunities that would not have been available otherwise. I've been automatically given passes to second or third round interviews because of my university.

It honestly really doesn’t matter the farther you get from law school. One of our in-house lawyers went to an Ivy League school. The other went to a state school. I’ve honestly noticed over the years it’s whether you can get the job done or under the budget in time or fast enough for your boss. A lot factor of life come into play for certain people that went into mine like depression, deaths, loss of family that really starts to affect some folks work product. It’s not like or cfo is like “Oh you went to Duke- I’ll give you everything in the cabinet and never check your work product lol. This video was really good!

Law school rankings are relevant to the extent that they reflect employment outcomes and bar passage rates.

What do you think about to live/work in Chicago vs Atlanta as a Chinese Asian lawyer, is it safe to live in Chicago.

Would you, or someone here, happen to know a good lawyer for mold litigation?

Attending a "top tier" law school and being smart don't always correlate. Thinking of those few with connections more than smarts. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Too many of those with connections end up with premium jobs.

What do you think about the difference between Emory and University of Georgia law school, especially for big law. How competitive among the students in Georgia, and which school is easy to be
top in the class rank.

Is it difficult to find a big law job in Atlanta area for Chinese Asian, and is it racist in Atlanta.
Do you feel safe to live/work in Atlanta.
