When you visit the UK there are a few things to know before you go. What exactly is the United Kingdom and what are the British quirks, phrases and customs which are helpful to know.

Taking a light-hearted look at UK culture (although this will probably not be reflected in some of the comments). One of the best things to do when you come to the UK is to get out of London and explore the country if you have the time.

London is a great city with so much history and every street but the UK is so much more than just London. We recommend renting a car or getting a train to the countryside or one of the other countries of the United Kingdom, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

I think the issue with tea from a coffee shop is Health & Safety. The water for tea is actually from a separate water boiler, however, when I was a child I always remembered the water boiler spouts at greasy spoons erupting with gargling, boiling water, still on the boil and enough steam to convince you that you we're waiting for a train 🤣, accompanied by the sound of a locomotive blowing a safety valve or something. They just trickle out hot water now.

That longest train station's name appeared in my old English text book at my high school in early 80's !!! Infact it was 1980 !!! Lol. I told that to my Welsh b.f.on phone ( Jon Lee from Feeder before he plaid professionally, he was only 13 ) & he was stunned !!! We used to laugh a lot because in summer, I had lots of crickets coming in our house & we had to raise our voices at each other on the phone as they were singing way too loud in the background !! Jon couldn't believe that was crickets singing !!! LOLLOLLOL 😆Jon spoke a little of Welsh !!! I miss him everyday !!!
" toilet" was & still is a bit uncomfortable word for me to use here in the U.S., though I had learnt from my old English b.f.that it was totally o.k. there & not many used " Loo " anymore ! Funny ! As we Japanese use the English word " toilet " in Japan daily & not offending anyone !! LOLLOLLOL 😆
I personally love " football " ⚽️over " soccer " though we say soccer in Japan, too ! But, it is football, a sport game using only their feet !! So, " football " isn't it !!? Lol. Also I dislike the sound of " soccer " .Lol.

I totally hear you ! You'll be surprised to see how people are believing Wales is a part of England, or even Scottish are English & all ! On Y.T., you still see the title saying English trip in Wales, English countryside xxxx, Wales !!! Lol. Even a Japanese or other westerner nationality person referring like " my English wife from Scotland !" LOLLOLLOL AND THEIR SPOUSES ARE LETTING 'EM doing that !!! Whaat !? Ugh ... !!! I was one of 'em when I was a teen, although I knew of Britain & meaning, but I believe the education systems & the societies allow it to happen ! Shame !!! A long time ago when I was 19 or 20, I said " Oh--! You're English !?" to a Scottish man, the next moment his hands were around my neck !!! 😱😅 I learned it a hard away !! N.Y.is a total different world, more like Shibuya, Tokyo !!! Lol. I am originally from Tokyo ! I hope Wales & Welsh will get separate recognitions from other nationalities soon in the future ! So that you won't have to say " YOU know, it's next to England !" Lol. Shame on us !! Wales is a GEM !!! You all deserve to get recognized as Welsh, not English !! It's about the time !!! Lol.
