Great stuff mate! I remember the first time I studied up on medieval titles years ago and the whole position of an Earl was a confusing thing for me back then. I loved that you explained it so thoroughly.

I've learned more history from your channel then I have from all my years of high school history combined. Largely because you're videos genuinely interest me, and are not forced upon me at seven in the morning.

I wanted to find out how many noble titles Metatron listed, but it was Knight, so I was too tired to Count them. Maybe I will wake up Early tomorrow and find out. Baron mind I might totally forget, though, or I might have Marquistions to ask when I wake up.

Would be interesting to learn more on these noble ranks in detail so I like the idea of a single video for each.

During the Roman Republic, nobilis ("noble, " plural nobiles) was a descriptive term of social rank, usually indicating that a member of the family had achieved the consulship. Those who belonged to the hereditary patrician families were noble, but plebeians whose ancestors were consuls were also considered nobiles. The transition to nobilitas thus required the rise of an exceptional individual, who was considered a "new man" (novus homo). Two of the most famous examples of these self-made "new men" were Gaius Marius, who held the consulship seven times, and Marcus Tullius Cicero.

Thank you for the great video. My own family has been in the nobility class, in France, since 1445 and is granted through “Lettres Patent” a document signed by the King, which grants not only nobility but as well, “nom de terre”, which ties the nobility to certain large areas of land under this additional nom de terre. A large number of my family carried through to this day their historical titles as Marquis de - - enter last name here. Luckily as well since the 1440s, we are really blessed historically (as members of the nobility in my case have always been part of the French court since the mid 15th century and we are blessed through excellent genealogy records from the medieval period up towards current day; I find history and historical research fascinating. Thanks again for the great video.

Holy cow!! It's the first time I see the real name of the Metatron, even his academic title. Great videos, man, I always see them when there is a good theme to learn about.

Among these three, Duke was the highest rank, whereas Earl and Count equaled to each other, in the Continental Europe, it was called Count, and the Northern Europe and Britain Earl. However, I just learned from this video that Earl had equaled to Duke, before in became an equal of Count.

Boss suit, sir. Love the blue tie.

Yet another informative video. Thank you for your work.

Trick question. Earl and count are the same rank with duke above them both.

ok at 1:19 paused, Earl and Count are basically equivalent (with Earl just being the english counterpart to the title count) and Duke is above both.
