Obviously correct decision not to use this ending, one of the weird alchemies of the film is that it is actually a feel good movie through its incredible humor, including a blind kid who doesn't know his bird has died. This ending would cast a pall over the entire film, asking the audience to judge the characters along with him, and showing the characters are capable of rudely insulting someone trying to help them who is aware of their actual station in life.

This ending was to show that they haven't learned one thing by the end - they are still the stupid arrogant dweebs they were in the beginning. Which is probably why it wasn't used, people needed to see they at least somewhat evolved and while still dumb, they weren't malicious anymore.

People, including me, tend to overlook Harry and Lloyd aren't exactly good people, because Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels make them sympathetic and the movie is a comedy - but really, they are infantile, troublemaking douchebags. They stole newspapers, tricked the blind boy, embezzled million dollars or so, tricked numerous people, betrayed each other over the first woman they met, killed a rare bird, etc. They are not good people, if you met them in real life, you would hate them.
