Patreon should have told Apple that they wouldn't comply. Then, If Apple did remove the Patreon app from iPhones it would be Apple's loss. Users would still be able to use a browser to access Patreon and content providers would continue getting the same amount they currently receive. In the long run, Apple could run off enough app creators and content providers to start being seen as short sighted and predatory.

I grew up in an Apple family (because at one point the company heavily discounted their products to educators), and I stopped using their wares a long time ago because of the absolute shift in priorities. Money grubbing swine.

Haven't used Apple since my Ipod broke after a few days light use back in the early 2000's and they told me it was my fault without looking at it (the ipod was in mint condition, it just stopped working) and I was left with an overpriced piece of dead tech, I bought a creative labs mp3 player that still works to this day!, I had such a bad experience back then with Apple, I swore never to put myself through such an demeaning experience again, Apple has terrible customer service, will try to nickle and dime you for everything, they keep messing with repair places and making it harder. It's just one of the worst companies.

I’m really, really, really tired of tech company greed. It’s not just Apple, you know this, it’s definitely an indicator of the overall economy. Nearly all of my vendors at work (SaaS company, I run a cybersecurity team) are doing similar sorts of plays. Our current threat intel provider, there was a leaked credential monitoring part of one of their modules, we paid for it, they decided they’d move that one feature out to another, new, module and charge $60k a year for it.

These companies are unable to grow to new customers so they’re finding ways to screw existing ones.

Enshittification.

And don’t get me started on Microsoft…

Whatever you decide, anyone who continues to use apple stuff is working on destroying the people they want to support.

On the phone with apple right now, and the woman is telling me “you have to contact Patreon about this… we do not handle these types of issues and I know nothing about this” now we are waiting for her to talk to her manager. 🎶 Here we go round and round and round. I went through this similar situation a few years back when I purchased Google One via my iPhone. At some point I realized I was paying MORE than was being advertised on my roommates Chromebook. Looking into it I learned Google ups the price for the subscription if you purchase via iPhone because of Apple's RIDICULOUSLY extortionist 30% fee!! Since then, I no longer purchase ANYTHING on my stupid iPhone. I bought a Chromebook for this type of stuff.
Fran, I would recommend every time you advertise your Patreon, ask them NOT to use iPhone and perhaps a link so they can learn exactly why. Those of us that value creators like yourself want ALL of our donations to go to the CREATOR, not some CORPORATION! I have been a fan of Apple's for MANY years, but this has me thinking otherwise. Absolutely abhorrent they are doing this.

People used to buy Apple to "stick it to the man" (Microsoft + IBM) but now, Apple is "the man". Tim Cook is not the same kind of person as Steve Jobs was.
