DJI Mavic Air Preview | vs Mavic Pro & Spark

It's priced at $799 only a few hundred bucks less than the Mavic Pro which is $999. The Spark has dropped in price from $499 to $399 so if you've been wanting to get a toy camera drone that's really good, you might want to consider it.

This is a preview, hopefully we get our hands on one soon to give it a full on test.

I really loved the spark when it was announced initially, but I hesitated because of the lack of RAW files and unfoldable arms... now with the AIR coming out, I'm really tempted!!

The problem with the controller for this and for the Spark is that they only fit phones and aren't large enough for tablets. The crazy thing is that it would only require a minor design change for larger devices to slot into the controller. Also, I wish there was a way to fly with only the controller. You'd be very limited in a number of ways without a phone/tablet connected of course, but I'd still like to have that option.

I have a Spark and I was getting ready to buy a Mavic Pro Platinum, but I just ordered a Mavic Air. For me, it's nearly everything I wanted from the Pro in a smaller package (and for noticeably less money). I can live with the shorter flight time, and the shorter range isn't that important since I can't legally fly it out of sight. The rear obstacle avoidance sensors were a major selling point.

for my needs of just getting into a drone the spark makes perfect sense, but for a tad bit more i feel like the air is the better choice. I am glad it just came out so now I have to think which to get.

With the Air and the Pro being the same price ( Costco 799 for the Pro) what would you recommend?

I bought three of the Costco quadcopters and just tied them all together. Now my T3i is airborn and perfectly stable. 👍💥☕

You have $1000 to spend, do you get a spark, mavic pro or mavic air?

I wish the P4 cam could be integrated into a Mavic Pro with gimbal protection like this Mavic Air!

I would say if you’re going to use a drone to buy a larger setup. with the small drones someone can sneeze and blow it away

That fact that it is more similar to the Mavic Pro then the Spark but, smaller. I'm getting one. I like the more gimble protection and the controller joy sticks can be removed. More portable and compact.

Should I be worried about the remote only being wifi connectivity and not radio? Also what are your thoughts on the higher bit rate on the 4k? Do you think the video quality stands up to the Phantom 4 Pro at 4k 24fps @100mbps. I just lost my phantom 4 pro unfortunately, but I always hated it's bulkiness. This new magic air is very tempting, but I'm worried about it's video quality and endurance in wind.

Just picked up my Air today... Going through the charging and setup at the moment, and looking forward to taking it for a fly tomorrow.
Was gonna get the Mavic pro, but after seeing the video comparo's between the Pro and the Air, I chose the Air. (And saved myself $500.) (Fly more Air in Australia is $1599 compared to $2199 for the Pro Fly more...)
I partly shoot landscapes and FINALLY, have an aerial product that takes up bugger-all room in my pack for hiking.. (Only takes as much room (in the case) as my D810 body.)
Vid quality difference can only come down to the bit rate, but it makes a heluva difference.

what would you do? i have the mavic pro but i'm considering to sell it because drones under 500grams (like the mavic air) do not have any flight restrictions in switzerland (which are pretty hard). it's perfectly clear that i wouldn't fly next to an airport, but in switzerland the no-fly zones are in a 10km radius around airports which leave out almost no space to fly
Thanks for your help

What is your opinion of the WiFi connectivity of the Mavic Air? That is a concern since I am considering purchasing the air

I'm sticking with my Mavic Pro. It's everything I need!

I kind of realized one thing: When buying a DJI drone, no matter what you buy, when you buy and how happy you are when you buy, you'll gonna regret it in less than a year whatsoever. I'm not sure whether I should be happy about it or sad about it.

but does it have manual camera settings for video?! how is the ISO range ?! does it have the log color settings like the mavic does ? I love how small it is and battery isn’t a deal breaker, but if i cant get the settings right and be able to color grade then i have to go with mavic pro
