Netflix and "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig are making a new film in The Chronicles of Narnia series and it seems like they have chosen to gender swap Aslan as Meryl Streep is in talks to voice the great lion.

I will keep you guys updated on any Narnia developments. Thanks for watching and I'll see you soon!

if they want a big name for Aslan get Morgan Freeman his voice fit perfectly

I'd rather have Liam Neeson back. He was perfect as Aslan for me.

Denzel Washington rumoured to be playing the White Witch. You read it here first.

I'm gonna need Netflix to keep their goddamn hands off of Narnia or anymore franchises that are perfectly fine as themselves. If they want to readapt something so badly, they can start by redoing the shit category of shows they have on their list.

It's decisions like these that are the reason why people remain so stuck in the past. If there's nothing in the future to look forward to, then why jump towards it when all the good stuff is in the past.

Ian McShane - I love his voice. Definitely NEEDS to be a powerful, yet warm, MALE voice.

Look, should we even be surprised? We all know Hollywood has a forte at fucking up remakes/reboots.

Meryl Streep should decline this... so that she can avoid the backlash. Literally would anyone in their right mind cast "Jesus Christ" as a woman? Or God who is literally the "Father" of all creation. These directors and writers REALLY need to stop doing "remakes" aka fake remakes and just create a completely NEW story with a NEW title.

So it is done. This is a crime, an absolute crime. Why is it always open season on what Christianity holds dear? No, it's a direct assault, not just them being 'cute'. I will not be watching. I'd cast Peter Dinklage.

I'm now convinced Narnia will never get an appropriate adaptation due to people being stupid

This book series is so good and so beautiful and the 2005 movie is seriously so good and so beautiful an adaptation that any adaptation would probably be bad just compared to it but….this….this is just….oh my gosh…why? Like….seriously there’s literally NO REASON for this actor change. I think that Meryl Streep is an amazing actress but she should NOT be Aslan. When I heard that they were remaking this movie I got so sad. Because I knew that they would either take out all the Christian themes and probably put weird, meaningless “female empowerment” moments for Susan even though she was already awesome and cool in her own right in the original book and movies. My family doesn’t have Netflix and I’m super glad because I won’t even have the opportunity to watch this insanity

They are all set to desecrate the story and tear down the author's good name. Aslan will be a transistor sister. The White Witch will be a misunderstood, sympathetic anti-hero. The children will be race swapped. But I triple guarantee you that this series will be hyper focused on Susan and how she was wrongly barred from Narnia.

Dude. This probably isn’t the first or the last time that a character interpreted as God is portrayed as something beyond gender in movies. The Bible literally says God once appeared as a burning bush, and in The Prince of Egypt they used both a male and a female voice for Him. God is played by a Black woman in The Shack (2007), and both that animated film and the book are well-known and beloved by many Christians. There’s also Good Omens, where Frances McDormand voices God — and that adaptation is incredibly faithful to its source material.

So I really don’t get how Christian fans are saying this is “a slap in the face” just because they cast a very talented actress, with a comforting voice and two Oscars, to play Aslan. Especially when Aslan is literally a version of God from another dimension — a talking lion who lives among fauns, dragons, and witches.

I actually think this choice could help the adaptation stand out by making Aslan feel different from all the other talking lions in Narnia. Especially if they keep the “we lions” moment from the book — Aslan needs to be set apart somehow. He has to be the most real of all lions. Personally, I would given him antler horns or some sort of crown. But giving him a distinct voice could work. All the talking lions have male voices and this one not. Fine.

Honestly, what bothered me most in the video wasn’t the initial surprise at the news, but saying, “I don’t care if she’s good or if she’s won two Oscars.” Like… what? So if it were a mediocre or bad actor, that would somehow be fine? That’s such a terrible way of thinking, in my opinion.

But hey — maybe it’s just a knee-jerk first reaction.

Lets wait and see what they do to her voice in post, it might sound great for all we know.

nothing is destroyed. narnia is a book series it is what it is a reading experience. All other iterations are just some other interpretation and it could be anything. where it is good or not that is another matter.
