I read these books when I was 12. I'm now 52 and they are still easy to listen to. Such a different time. For a second there, when their mother told the children they could stay out all day I nearly worried!! How the world has changed. I allow my 14 year old son to catch the bus on his own to anywhere he wants in town. There is one bus that travels around to all the major destinations in our town. When he was little he would travel with me on the train and bus to the city and I drummed it into him how to ride public transport and get around. So now, at 14, he is able to do it confidently on his own. I never have to worry about him. I have also taught him some self-defence moves as I trained for over a year in Krav Maga. But, for a split second there, I did worry for those little children!!
