Episode Notes:

1. Games tested on the Mega SG, Kega Fusion, and real hardware(Model 1 TMSS). No issues that I could find.

2. Aside from some dithering and a touch of sprite flicker, ZPF really comes off as nearly a Neo Geo title.

3. Of the games I featured, I only have the finished version of Rocket Panda(which I paid for). Both Lethal Wedding and ZPF are currently still in production.

4. Mega Cat provided the preview demo carts of Lethal Wedding and ZPF but I was not paid to cover them. I was also a backer of ZPF on Kickstarter.

5. Don't forget to check the links above!

I will never get tired of seeing new games released on the Mega Drive nearly 36 years later.

“Rocket Panda”: rescuing the little pandas reminds me a bit of “Flicky.” 👍👍

Lethal Wedding looks a heck of a lot like Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Rocket Panda looks good, something different you could have seen released back in the hey day. Mega Cat was the studio that did Coffee Crisis which was just average, that's what i knew of them. Big Evil Corporation actually developed and self published Tanglewood, it has a custom sound driver and the dev used 68k machine code to make his engine which is impressive; it's a solid game if you really like Megadrive/Genesis.

Mega Cat is located in Pittsburgh! I've seen the studio and logo on the way to Oakland.

I bought Tanglewood from them a year or so ago. I ended up never playing it, because the bevel on the PCB is so slight that it feels very sharp. It's a far higher angle than either OG games or Retro-Bits carts. I'd never put an unbeveled cart in the Genesis and that cart was barely any better. I ended up selling it to my local retro game store instead of playing it. I hope they change their manufacturing to add a proper bevel to the cart. ZPF does indeed look excellent.

They resumed development for Lethal Wedding, then? I thought this one would be left in limbo indefinitely.

It's Amazing how these game have massive retro vibes of the Amiga era, looks like stuff that could have been released back then on that platform, just with updated graphics and gameplay if those system would have lasted until today 😁

The Mega Drives is alive and well in 2024. What a beast of a machine.

For a moment, I thought to myself, who wants to play as a Panda. Then, I quickly realized that the answer is, " Who doesn't wanna play a game as a Panda with a jet pack?!?!?!

would you consider doing an episode on the unreleased sega genesis game ResQ ? if for no other reason than to speak on both the great starfox esque bonus stage and the great matt furniss soundtrack?

Great video SLX, and these games look great! Unfortunately, I am not a fan of publishers and middle-men like Mega Cat Studios that don't offer digital download purchase options. I'm not a physical collector any more (live in a Tiny House and am very power-conscious), and prefer to play these games via emulators. Eventually I'll grab an FPGA device when the device comes along, too.

I really don't want to pay for paper and plastic I have no need of just to support these amazing devs. I backed stuff like Tanglewood, Tanzer, Xeno Crisis and a lot more via Kickstarter when I was collecting, and all of them offered up ROM copies too.

It seems a little backwards to not offer up Digital copies in 2024. Not all of us retro-game enthusiasts have need for physical hardware any more. Even those with hardware might even prefer ROMS for use with an EverDrive...

Sega Lord X I know you're definitely looking forward to Earthion. Both that and ZPF are looking to be some of the best looking shoot em ups on the Mega Drive next to Thunder Force IV
