Ashtanga: Strengthening Lifts with Lorraine

If you are an Ashtanga practitioner and you want to work on strength a great way is to incorporate some lifts into some of the seated postures. I bring my wife Lorraine along to demonstrate some of the lifts it is possible to do between Paschimottanasana, Trianga Mukaikapada Paschimottanasana, MarichyasanaA, B C & D, and Supta Konasana.
If you would like more detail on some of the lifts, leave a comment and we will see if we can make some individual tutorials.

Lifts are such a struggle for me but as I worked along with Lorraine, I came closer to achieving some than I have before. Thank you, Stu, for sharing the details of the lifts. Thank you, Lorraine for making the lifts seem within my capability.

I found out your YouTube channels only few months ago...how I wish I had found them out earlier

The most puzzling thing to me is how soft her gut is. Mine seems to be almost always tense (or is it bloated? I can't really tell), not allowing the heel in and also preventing deeper twists. Maybe you could do a video on how to relax abdominal muscles because it seems to be the key to these postures.

Sharath has just recently adviced not to do these kind of lifts (like after Marichyasana B or D) as it can be detrimental for the shoulder joint in the long term
