How to Check Battery Fluid Level

Mahalo mechanic expert Desmond Bryant teaches you how to check your car battery's fluid level.

There are two types of batteries that cars run on: wet cell and dry cell. The wet cell uses water, while the dry cell uses paste. For cars that use wet cells, you will need to know how to check and replace the fluid.

Open the Cap

Open the cap of the battery and you'll find exposed cells. Inside these cells you will be able to see where the water level reaches. 

Fill the Cells
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Fill these cells with distilled water up to the lowest designated line. If you overfill, acid will get all over the battery and engine.

Voila!
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Replace the cap and you're ready to go!

I answered my own question regarding the acid concentration by doing some of my own testing. about 3-4 parts acid to 1 part water is already showing about 75% using that acid tester.
So now my questions are:
What's the best way to completely drain those bad cells?
How much fluid will each cell hold in a typical 6-cell car battery?

Good info...but wow...never look into cells of battery without safety glasses at very least....batteries can be very dangerous...

Good guide, but I need something a bit more in-depth.
I knew my battery wasn't holding a charge so I bought an acid tester and battery acid to attempt restoring my battery rather than buying a new battery.
Using a battery acid tester I determined that 3 of 6 battery cells were bad. I tried to siphon out as much dead fluid as I could and topped off the cells with acid, but the tester still shows that these cells are dead. Perhaps the acid I purchased is already "pre-mixed"? Any ideas?

I am checking a Toyota altis and it had 6 small round covers on top of the liquid cell, distill water ? I thought we need a battery water ? And how do u know how much battery do I need to fill in, cause I don't c any red or green line . Thanks if u reply
