He explained that really well! Not only do I understand, but i really agree with the reasoning. I absolutely don't expect players to have these kinds of emotions in connection with the fans. I wouldn't. ESPECIALLY when fans are near constantly signaling to the players that they are just horses in a race, mere servants that had better meet incredibly UNREASONABLY high and unfair standards, or else they're meat on the chopping block. Ftr, i'm not talking about the good, emotionally mature fans, i'm talking about the bad ones. And the reason i put the bad ones front and center is because– let's face it– they are obviously the loudest representation of the football fan base and have the most influence. If the good, reasonable fans want more credit then they should be a hell of a lot louder than they are about the toxicity they see in their house and take the goddam trash out.

There's a clear double standard where players are expected to love the club and love the fans but the team is never expected to hold the same loyalty which is why so many players basically try to completely stay away from the fans

Ive always said its annoying when players say we'll do it for the fans because i just think do it for yourself win the trophies or survive relegation for yourself first because if you do whats right for you on the pitch itll likely line up with what the fans want anyway.

As a Utd fan I'll never forget last season when Rashford was having a bad game and got booed the last few times a got the ball before being subbed and he sat on the beach looking like he would rather be anywhere else. Was really sad to see.
