Alberta charter schools are booming

Today on the Alberta Roundup with Rachel Emmanuel, Rachel interviews Caylan Ford, the founder of three classical academy charter schools in Alberta.

Ford explains how her charter schools operate differently from regular public schools by prioritizing lessons that have stood the test of time. She also speaks about the damage being done to children in some public schools, and explains how concerned parents can express their interest in opening a charter school.

This is a great idea and I can see why it is booming!
If we had it in Ontario, and my kids were young again, I would certainly trust a school like this over Public School.
The education system here is the shambles to say the least.
My youngest just finished High School and thank God for that!

I bet there’s a lot of big school boards that are scared of the charter school success. School boards, and teacher unions are probably ready to lose their minds. It makes a lot of sense to get back to the basics of actually what a school is. Kids are there to learn math, reading, writing, science, etc. I would really hate to be a kid in today’s elementary public system. It’s political, confusing, and they’re probably not learning enough.

In Ontario half the teachers can't do basic math . Constantly strike holding our children hostage, they get a ridiculous amount of time off and are paid double the average Canadian wage. Finally they retire in their fifties with indexed pensions while returning as substitute teachers . All the while complaining about how hard they work and how hard life is .

Great interview, Rachel. Matthew Lau of the Fraser Institute published a report on March 3, "All provinces—not just Alberta—should embrace charter schools", which supports what Caylan Ford. The great American economist Thomas Sowell has long been a stout supporter of charter schools and at the age of 90 actually published a book on the subject. "Charter Schools and Their Enemies."
