* Government says it's working to resolve the water crisis in most parts of the country. Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu has apologised for the inconvenience caused by the shortage. He says they understand the public frustration over the matter and they are working around the clock to resolve the problem.

* After a brief reprieve from power cuts, Eskom is ramping up rolling blackouts once again. Stage 2 is now in progress while Stage 3 will be implemented at 4pm. Eskom meanwhile says it has signed off on its standard offer power purchase programmes. In September last year, Eskom launched power purchase programmes to secure one thousand megawatts to bolster constrained generation capacity. As part of these programmes, the power utility is currently importing electricity from some of its neighbours via the Southern African Power Pool. The power utility says the impact of these programmes will lower the burden of the rolling blackouts on consumers.

* Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union, POPCRU, has called for top prison officials to be investigated and held accountable for the escape of the notorious so-called Facebook rapist, Thabo Bester, from prison in Mangaung. Police have said that a manhunt is currently underway in an effort to capture the rapist and murderer. He escaped after his prison cell was set alight, in what was initially thought to be a suicide. A subsequent autopsy failed to match the DNA of the dead body to that of Bester. This was followed by social media posts of suspected sightings of Bester.
