In short, religion and politics are complicated (especially when they overlap) and trying to find a simple solution rarely results in a simple outcome.

Strictly speaking, although partition was contemplated of both the Muslim and Hindu interests the 562 princes ultimately had the choice of joining either India, or Pakistan, or becoming independent. Therefore, it may have been possible to have a geographically unified country had the parties been able to work out their differences or through conquest

You're smart for not covering the Kashmir issue.

This one felt overly abbreviated. Would have preferred to wait longer for a slightly more detailed/extended vid

"Partition? That's the last thing we would do" And then they partitioned and left, and it was the last thing they did.

What if India had been reverted back to its pre-colonial borders? Or what if all the princely states had each gained independence as a separate country? Or what if India had been divided along ethnic lines? Really, when you think about it, it’s incredible we even got an India as massive as we did in our time line when it could have been divided much much extensively.

*sees third option*
Well... I don’t think anyone told India or Pakistan about there being a third opinions... cause they pretty much used the Indian army to turn any “will be independent” vote into “thank you for joining”

Well at least they didn't repeat that mistake in the middle east or Africa
