One of the greatest shots in movie history.

Probably the most prophetic shot of the movie.  A man so alone at a time when he needed the unconditional support of the cowardly townspeople he protected while their sheriff, but only to be denied their support at every turn. The "crane shot" says to much!!

Iconic. That's all that needs to be said.

The real villain of this movie are the town people, not Miller and the gang. Notice that Miller's gang only appear for lesser screen time than the town people. So despite Miller is the enemy of Kane, the real villain in the movie are the ones who ignore Kane and decide to be coward and live in fear. Incredible movie with a subtle and strong message.

This could be done today by anyone with a drone. Crazy.

Gary Cooper was suffering from a bleeding ulcer during filming, which added to his character’s weary and stressed look. Talk about method acting! 😮🎬

From the :20 mark until the end....way upper camera left end of the shot...you can see the telephone poles and skyscrapers of LA in the distance...

All-time shot, to be sure, but fairly obvious modern buildings in the far distance,

The Warner Brothers back lot now; then Columbia Pictures [Movie] Ranch with Griffith Park behind.

Not to troll or anything but be honest.. that could have been way smoother. There would have been probably 2-3 ways to do that shot at that time (and on budget) without the jiggling.

John Wayne hated this movie for its socialist undertones and criticism of Blacklisting lol
