Yeah, that freaking urge to press the clutch & you end up unconsciously slamming the brake with the left foot...

As manual driver I had never pressed a brake with my left foot before

Done that. My then 7 year old kid flew towards the dashboard from the back seat. Good thing no one is behind us.

I usually end up panicking when I have to stop because I’m looking for the clutch and think I’m gonna stall

I've definitely done it a handful of times. Another thing I may find myself doing is parking in D instead of P.

Its easy my father once told me... when you drive automatic you just pretend that your left foot doesn't exists and it was easy after...

I primarily drive stick and rarely use my brother or mom’s automatic and this has never happened. What does happen though is getting in and hunting for the clutch to start the engine or shift into drive and it always makes me laugh when it happens.

Haven't done this yet, but I can admit to embarrassingly feeling for a clutch as soon as I hop in the car before realizing it's auto.

I daily a civic si and one day I was driving my mom’s automatic car w/ her to a grocery store. I was slowing down to pull into a parking spot going like 5mph and slammed the brake so hard thinking it was the clutch. I think my mom and I have some CTE from that whiplash😂

If you use your pedals in the wrong order when you drive manual sure, this can happen when you get in an automatic. You're supposed to start braking before you depress the clutch, so when you left foot is looking for the clutch your right foot should've already been on the brake.

I swear to God that was my reaction when I drove the auto for the first time ever!

First time in an auto I was stuck in traffic, so I put it in neutral. When I could move again I shifted in reverse, car started rolling backwards, almost hit the one behind me.
Second time, I hit the brake pedal with my left foot.
Third time, I parked the car, left, came back. There was no car in front, but I forgot there was a curb in front of my car, which I couldn't see from inside. Put it in drive and the car went over it (would have felt it in a manual). Result: damaged plate under the carter.
If you're used to manuals, autos are weird.

Bro you should still use the same foot regardless 😂

Only done that once my biggest pain is hitting the parking brake when it’s a left foot pedal. Permanent face imprint on the dash because of that.

I’m surprised he didn’t shift into reverse or something. I had a friend that took my auto for a spin and he got in and was like bro your missing a pedal. He got the car started put it in reverse then into drive and everything was cool until we came to a stop sign the guy got all messed up threw the shifter into 2nd engine was screaming I said pull over bro. He said it was habit but like god dam.
