Modlin Arts Presents: Banda Magda

Показать описание
Friday, March 8 | 7:30pm
Alice Jepson Theatre
“The music is as French as a summer kir royale on the Côte d’Azur or as bossa nova as a day at Copacabana.” – PRI’s The World
Led by Greek-born composer orchestrator, singer, and accordionist Magda Giannikou, Banda Magda draws on the band’s global background from Greece, Argentina, Japan, Colombia, and the United States. Moving from samba to French chanson, Greek folk tunes to Colombian cumbia, and Afro-Peruvian lando the group combines South American rhythms with jazz improvisation, cinematic arranging, sophisticated audience participation, mid-century classics, and world “chansons” sung in six languages.
ARTISTIC VIEWPOINT
Arrive early for a pre-performance discussion with Banda Magda, led by WCVE Music Jazz host Peter Solomon at 6:30 PM.
