--- Outline
00:00 Intro
The S&P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 are two of the most popular US stock indexes. Choosing where to invest is an important decision and it’s good to be informed on how the indexes differ.

01:18 Management & Strategy
The S&P 500 Index and Nasdaq 100 are managed in similar ways. The major difference is the strategy used to select companies included in each index.

02:41 Sector Breakdown
The strategies result in a different exposure to different sectors of the US economy. The Nasdaq 100 is much more concentrated in a couple sectors, while the S&P is more broadly diversified. We look at the breakdown.

03:51 Equity Styles
Both indexes are mostly all large cap companies. The Nasdaq 100 being more heavily skewed towards growth companies instead. The S&P 500 includes more value companies.

05:09 Performance
We look at how the two indexes have performed in the past 10 , 20 , and 50 years.

07:20 My Opinion
I think it can be reasonable to invest in both of the indexes, and think there are two big money questions. 1. Will the Nasdaq 100 outperform the S&P 500 in the future? 2. Can you tolerate the increased risk? I share my opinions on these two questions and how I invest.

11:30 Investment Options
Nasdaq 100: QQQ, QQQM
S&P 500: VOO, VFIAX, FXAIX, SWPPX, SPY

Buy VTI or any SP500 ETF of your choice (VOO is the most recommended) consistently regardless of how the market is doing, buy QQQ when the market enters a slump.

Amazing point brought up about investing during significant drops in the market! Never really heard anyone else bring that up

I've always put most of my money into SPY but have been picking some nasdaq stocks lately... just so much action with those stocks.

Love the comparison between the too. Very important to know about the ETF's

Nasdaq 100 is aggressive and better if you aren’t close to retirement.

I’ve allocated my portfolio as such:
45% VOO, 45% QQQ, 10% VT for long term ETFs

Nov 2022 & NDQ is down about 30%. I'm thinking about making it a 5% part of my etf portfolio (20 year long term). The majority of my US exposure will be IVV or IHVV. Would love others thoughts on NDQ at the moment.

👍Well explained. Realised I need a small cap fund and will buy it when it seems foolish to buy small caps.

I buy VT 95% and QQQ 5% every month, but my portfolio is consisted by Bonds mostly, so they're only 20% of my asset.
If the inflation is keeping high, QQQ might be under perform though, it would be okay 'cause I see 20years later.
Anyway, Nick, you're the best instructor than any japanese them, I'll watch your videos thoroughly😊

Can I ask you, I bought the S&P500 indices and the Nasdaq with a leverage of twenty times, I opened a buy deal when it was at the bottom, I bought two stocks, Standard & Poor’s, and Nasdaq half the profit share in my deal, now it appears to me that the profit moves because I did not close my deal. I will get and what will I get when the profits are distributed and when

I like VOO although still tempted to invest in QQQ; however a bit to volatile for me. Great description! Thank you very much for the information.

Listened again on 12/31/21: Excellent video, very instructive; I learned much from this. Thanks again Nic.
Great video Nick; thanks. Frankly if we had a longer investment horizon I'd surely give some serious consideration to both investments. I'd add a bond fund like VBTLX to the mix. I believe the serious investor will gain much from this video especially if they have a long investment horizon, say minimum of 3 to 5 years. Thanks again for his instructive video.
