The US company Holtec International will build nuclear reactors in India. In 2007, India and the US signed a civil nuclear agreement, and after so many years, we are now seeing its practical implementation. Access to US nuclear technology will help India in its clean energy transition. Still, most of India’s electricity is generated from coal. Coal-based power plants produce a significant amount of carbon emissions. After the construction of nuclear reactors, India will receive clean, efficient, and uninterrupted electricity. This electricity will be environmentally friendly, which will reduce our dependence on coal—​ helping to lower air pollution and the associated health costs. With this development, India will not only be able to meet its growing energy demand but also diversify its energy partnership beyond Russia by collaborating with the US. However, there will be some challenges as well, such as safety issues and the management of radioactive waste, which the US and India will have to address together.
