Seiko Club The Collector EP.14 : Kasem Dusadeeprasert

Features you’re not aware of: The old one was made to compete with the Sea Dweller and Planet Ocean. It was spec’ed for saturation diving, so it has a crystal thicker than 5mm. This is the reason for its thickness, not the monocoque case. This crystal is not merely pressed into place like 99.9% of watches including the new Marinemaster. There is a steel retaining ring which screws down on it, making the crystal blowout-resistant. You see this retaining ring around the crystal. It’s missing on the new MM. Another feature is the crown stem was machined out of the case. It is not a separate part. This, and the deleted case back are to reduce the number of seams on the watch.

The SLA079 is the classic black on black, smaller, thinner, 1968 diver inspired MM300 that I was wishing for and dreaming about for atleast 7 years now ( ever since I had fallen in love with seiko divers, especially the mm300 but could never buy one cuz of the heft, size and thickness ) . Will be buying the SLA079 soon ! Thank you sooo much for this Seiko, I love you 🙏

I've owned the SLA021 for three years and absolutely love it! I gave the SLA047 to my brother this year. He loves the Marinemaster 300m! It's a classic. The new Marinemaster is cool but... not a classic. My brother and I both own Submariners and never wear them. The Marinemaster 300m just hogs the wrist time. The Marinemaster 300m is a lovable wristburger

I don't think I've ever commented on you YouTube video before. Here it is. Thank you for this video YoureTerrific. I own the SBDX023 (Black dial) MM300 and am so confused by the watch. I think it is somehow the most beautiful watch I've owned (serial flipper) and seen before. At the same time, it's 220 grams and nearly unwearable for me for a full day. I've tried straps and always come back to the bracelet. This is a watch that will stay in my collection and will probably get worn 5 days a year and is worth it to me. Bruce Williams also has a funny relationship with these watches. I think he's owned like 5 of them now. Cheers and thanks for the comparison.

The price of the original MM300 is not in its favour against Swiss divers, but I once held a SBDX001 in my hands, and it was really an emotional experience to discover this heavy piece of metal. The depth of the dial, the vanilla colour of the lume, the details of the case, the heavy bezel with its soft click (reminding me the precision of a combination safe lock), the He-Gaz Divers's inscription on the back, all contribute to make it unique, and a true signature design for Seiko. I would even argue that this is one of the most photogenic modern divers around.

Merry Christmas from fellow 7" wrist guy! Thanks for putting out entertaining contents. You've become my favorite watch youtuber!

I don't know if people were asking for this comparison, but it is definitely the one we needed.

A new YoureTerrific video is the early xmas gift we all wanted!

I have been wearing the green dial SLA047 since new and absolutely love it. I’m not a fan of the small hour plots on the new 079 at all but that’s just me. Over the years I’ve learned, a tropic is great but makes the watch top heavy, the best strap hands down is the DiveCore HP strap. I have a black and an orange and that’s nearly the only thing that this watch sits on. Also, the bracelet is fine, fight me lol

I’ve owned and worn the SLA047 for a few years now and absolutely love it. It is big, heavy and expensive, but it is also somehow luxurious, comfortable (I love the bracelet) and versatile. It won’t slide under a dress shirt cuff, but for anything else it fits in just fine.

Now this is a nice early Christmas gift. You’re Terrific!
SLA019/SBDX021 is my favourite green MM300. Mine isn’t going anywhere. I do plan on adding the 079 to my collection though. Enough major differences that they can certainly co-exist in the watchbox without feeling like it’s overlapping or repetitive.

I had the MM300 for five years now and wore it everyday in the field. Cabling, rack and stack networking, general IT work--it not only survived, the case looks brand new still. Seiko isn't my favorite brand but they have a few designs/models that are really amazing. The MM300 is one of those, so its the legendary "tuna can". The 8L35 movement beats at 4 Hz and keeps good time too, quite unlike the lower tiers of Seiko watches.

Continuing to make the best all around watch review videos…
(How often does a watch video elicit a genuine LOL…??!)
Well done, as always. 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽

Another great video about Seiko for those of us to whom they all look the same. One day we’ll be Seiko nerds and you the one who provided the base knowledge.
That or we die in shame.

I'm wearing my SLA047 right now, which I was considering selling until I watched this video. The dial is what really sold me on this timepiece because it looks amazing especially in sunlight.

The first video I watched (many times) from you is the one on the SBDX017. It is nice to see you making some kind of return to this beautiful watch through one of its heirs.

I enjoyed this video! I have owned an SBDX001 since 2004. I also have an SLA023J with the blue dial and an SLA055 with the Everbrilliant steel case and fumee dial. The "original" 300mm Marinemaster has more character due to its exquisitely shaped chunky case and large round markers. Also, the diver's extension is so practical. It is my choice for night time wear because of the fantastic lume. The SLA079 would look better with less text on the dial as per the SLA055. You just can't beat the old style Marine Master for wearing experience in my opinion.

Thanks for reviewing and creating content for other brands too - Rolex fatigue and elitism is a real thing now whether the brand or people like it or not.

Thank you for this excellent comparison. Merry Christmas!

I was ready to buy an SLA079, but looking at these side-by-side, I wish the indices were just a little bigger. Probably will still buy.
