WERKSTATT-01 | 555 IC - 2nd LFO

In this project we will use a 555 timer to create a second square wave LFO. By adding a second Low Frequency Oscillator we can create much richer textures and more complex sounds.

Read this if you can't get this working. The circuit that he explained must be a mistake. First of all, a 555 timer IC must have power to going into pin 8, that's its main power in. Second, pin 2 is the trigger signal. When the 10 μF capacitor discharges, it is supposed to discharge through the potentiometer into pin 7 and send a trigger signal into pin 2. By leaving pin 2 open, there is no trigger to generate output.

To get this circuit working, use jumper wires to connect pin 8 to 4 and connect pin 2 to 6. Enjoy your fun square wave LFO!

The frequency in Hz is given by 1.44/[(Ra + 2Rb)*C] where Ra is the 1.5 kΩ resistor, Rb is the potentiometer resistance, and C is the 10 μF capacitor. Download the xx555 manual from TI for more info, e.g. learn how to make this into a triangle wave. Cheers!

I see you there Moog, trying to make the video 5:55 long for the 555 IC. :)
