I am a gay man and I grew up in a deeply conservative part of Ireland in the 70s where it was, in fact, extremely difficult to be openly gay. It was only in the 80s that it became possible to meet other LGBT people although it was very difficult.

It is really disturbing to see how Meta is introducing this change, that apparently there is to be a green light to accusing LGBT people as being mentally ill. Older LGBT people like me remember how the belief that being LGBT was a form of mental illness was commonplace. Terrible “treatments” for being LGBT were created and implemented based on the idea that it was a form of mental illness.

So to greenlight this abuse seems to me to be particularly cruel and inhuman.

If you leave Meta (like I've done) and Instragram/Threads - make sure you remove the apps from all your devices and remove everything. Meta collects your personal data like a crackhead desperately searching for it's next hit. I never want to Zuck's idiot face again.
