She was excellent in this film!!! Alien and Aliens are two of my favorite films. Clearly in my top 10 films of all time.

Not only was the character originally going to be male, no one was supposed to survive, but the studio thought that would upset the audience. So Ridley changed Ripely to female and it was gonna be Dallas and Ripley. Then he changed it again and was gonna have Ripley be the sole survivor. Then the studio thought that was a bad idea . But Ridley stuck with it. Best decision ever!! I watched this as a young 10 yr old girl and instantly fell in love with Ripley, she became my role model . Up until this point in movie history there was no female heroin sole survivor. The female characters were alway being saved by a male lead, or falling down running ( complete ridiculous) I always thought it was so stupid as a kid. Because I was a girl and I didn’t fall down running ever! This movie showed a women a female as capable of saving herself and over coming harsh realities. Greatest character of all time .

NOBODY else at that time would've done as well with Ripley as Ms.Weaver did. She is one helluva and actress and I've always been disappointed that she wasn't given the kind of...I don't know, opportunity? To do more lead roles like that but maybe she wouldn't been typed and didn't want that. I just think she's a very talented force and I hope she'll continue to unleash all her skills as she likes and sees fit to. Ripley, imnsho, is a character that speaks to A LOT of women and she played her SO skillfully deftly without getting in her own way. She's just good at any role she's in.

So much of what made Ellen Ripley so universally respected and beloved was Sigourney Weaver's particular affectations and charisma. She is a magnetic person and Ripley is one of the most intelligently written protagonists ever. She subverts the expected tropes of horror leads, eschews the boorish machismo of a lot of action leads to act with shrewd insight and grit over trite dimwitted heroics. Ellen Ripley is f***ing AWESOME.

Sigourney Weaver _did it _*_RIGHT_* she played the role with tremdous BALANCE. She was tough & pragmatic without being hopelessly _Masculine_ sort of an *ideal* Heroine, who STILL had the touch of femininity in her actions / thoughts. *Yet was also "thinking & deciding" ---- excellent, Excellent UNBEATABLE acting & born from a great human nature. Modern heroines should HOPE, for 10 or 20% of their ability to be similar.
She's a combination of: LUCKY, BLESSED and TALENTED.
*Sigourney Weaver* is never going to happen to society again. She's ONE of a kind.
