This video is great for those who want to do more for less! I am one of those people and use a lot of pool filter sand! The Home Depots that are around the area I live in don't carry the pool filter sand. I have to goto a pool supply store to get it. It is about $12 for 50 lbs which is still cheaper than buying aquarium sand.

You say zeolite will poison fish. However, I recently took a materials chemistry class, and we discussed that zeolite is simply a heavily microporous material similar to activated charcoal. Are you sure it will poison the fish? I believe you, but I'm curious for any additional information you can provide. Thank you!

Very interesting! I'm thinking about this sand next tank. I plan on upgrading to a 75 and have better scape and fish options

I bought this exact same sand from Home Depot for my turtle thank you for the tutorial! Question! After cleaning the sand, would it be easier to put the sand in an empty tank first and then add the water afterwards? Or is your method recommended

Howdy, is a 50 pound bag enough for a 55 Gal tank ? So thrilled to start putting my new tank together, thanks for the video

Just the thing I was looking for. Was wondering if bare bottom tanks would be ok for Corydoras. I feel everyone suggests having some amount of fine sand substrate for Corydoras. Cheers.

I’m thinking of doing this for my pigmy puffer tank with plants. I currently have gravel in there. Will this work ok? I was going to go with a plant substrate but sand is better for my budget right now.
