Wer wie Polina Tarasenko eine so extrem herausfordernde wie umfassende Ausbildung am renommierten Gnessin-Institut absolviert hat, darf sich zur musikalischen Elite zählen. »Hier habe ich neben Posaune auch Komposition, Orgel, Trompete und Altsaxofon erlernt«, erzählt die aus der Ukraine stammende, derzeit in Hannover studierende Musikerin eher beiläufig. Doch die Posaune ist und bleibt ihr meisterlich beherrschtes Parade-Instrument, mit dem sie sich versiert zwischen Klassik und Jazz bewegt und Wettbewerbs- wie Publikumserfolge feiert – auf dem sicheren Weg zu einer ganz und gar erstaunlichen Solokarriere, wie sie unter Posaunisten nur äußerst selten anzutreffen ist.
Whoever, like Polina Tarasenko, has completed such an extremely challenging and comprehensive education at the renowned Gnessin Institute can count themselves among the musical elite. "Here, in addition to trombone, I also learned composition, organ, trumpet and alto saxophone," says the musician, who originally came from the Ukraine and is currently studying in Hannover. But the trombone is and remains her masterly mastered instrument, with which she moves adeptly between classical and jazz and celebrates success in competitions and audiences - on the sure way to an absolutely amazing solo career, which is only extremely rarely found among trombonists .

What I have just heard (and seen!) can't possibly have happened! I mean the trombone can't possibly do all these things. Can it? Was I imagining it? But no! It happened. And it is surely a miracle! This girl has pushed trombone playing way past its assumed (incorrectly) limits.It is an utterly amazing piece of writing for the instrument and she is an utterly amazing, incredible performer. And throughout all these impossible virtuosities her sound was always beautiful.Powerful, weighty and at the same time incredibly nimble. Her intonation always perfect. What is there left for the trombone to do.? Not much, I think. But hats off to this musical phenomenon!. But how many trombonists would have the guts to even attempt this impossible, crazy, but totally convincing work. Bravo, Ms Tarasenko .You are a genius trombonist and musician.I am gobsmacked!.

I haven’t heard anything this developed for trombone in the US. Is there a cadenza? Also it’s a great piece for improvisation.

What's with this piece? It seems that only women can play it well. Sophie Bright (Switzerland) recorded this when was 16. And then I listened to Joseph Alessi ... with all due respect to Mr. Alessi, these two ladies ... blew him away. Hat off to both of them!
And me? Why don't I put up or shut up? LOL - I play bass trombone, not tenor and am not 1/4 as good as either. I have no problem owning my mediocrity.
