I'm from Brazil, Rio. Lived in Vancouver in 2009 for almost one year and i have to say that i just loved . I'ts terrible to see that the number of drug addicts has increased dramatically, but i still want to revisit the city . Thanks for this video !

I just saw that Vancouver created the first ‘indoor supervised inhalation room’. The best health care in BC goes to the drug addicts. If you have cancer and need treatment, get in line. Hard to wrap your head around that

I lived in Vancouver in 2008-2009, and much of what Travis is saying was true back then. Crazy to see that not much has changed. beautiful city to live in but definitelty has some warts as mentioned in the video. The skytrain was incredible, it should be duplicated in every major city.

Hey Trav

Born and raised in Saskatoon and been in the Lower Mainland, including Vancouver, for over 30 years. Many Saskatonies moved to Alberta, but I am aware of many people from Saskatchewan living in B.C.

Yes, Vancouver is very expensive, but other parts of Canada are experiencing the same issues as we are.

I have worked across the street from where you filmed the group of street people in the downtown east side with the homeless, drugged addicted people and see it's just getting worse no matter how much supportive housing and supports we give them it's never enough and the healthcare system is failing everybody all across Canada.

Like the comments have stated, it's probably better to go to a less expensive area of Canada if you want to start and raise a family. But as I stated earlier, even places like Saskatoon or Quebec and even the Maritimes have pros and cons when it comes to raising a family.
(Rents, housing, access to healthcare and even the weather)

Thanks for the video and I appreciate the one you did on Saskatoon's hotel Bessborough that was one of my favorites.

People can disagree but the Lower Mainland used to more friendly, Now if you say hello these days you either get told off or get a look. Used to be more friendlier and the traffic and transit are some of the on-going issues that I face. I take public transit and it isn't as good as it could be especially in the Surrey-Langley area.

Liberal, conservative, I don't care. I would vote for whoever cleans up the homeless situation. Unfortunately both parties promise they're the one who's going to fix the economy but neither one seems able to do it.

Hey! As another former Winnipegger whose been in Vancouver for almost 2 years (this video must have been made for me), you nailed it ! Despite all the many issues in this city I’m still really enjoying it and in awe of the natural beauty. Definitely not minding the mild winters here compared to the -40 in Winnipeg. Great content. Cheers!

From immigration to the homeless problem, the whole video makes it sound like "just get ride of them all so it can make me, a sis gender white guy more comfortable". A modern take on "go back to your country". The "I don't wanna be friends with you because you don't assimilate to my culture" stands is just wow. Welcome to Vancouver.

The multiple times I’ve been to Vancouver the homelessness out weighs any positivity the city could have

This is an even, well balanced review of the city I've called home for 24 years. If people are using this as research for a potential move here I may add a few details. Vancouver has an amazing live music scene, theater and a decent amount of touring bands/shows come here. It's not as good as Toronto for that, but it's very good. Musician's get paid peanuts but still there is a lot of talent. I wouldn't live anywhere else, but there is a good amount of scuzziness in downtown/east Van and several other places, astronomical housing/gas prices etc. It's also impossible to find a doctor, there is major shortages of hospital staffing, traffic is horrendous, parking is expensive, and we are losing many smart, educated immigrants for a huge influx of labourers and less skilled professions. This will obviously impact the way Vancouver will develop over the next few decades which should be researched if you plan on moving here.

I think Ken Sim might object to you labeling him NDP. Also, BC became unaffordable under the BC Liberal regime but hasnt improved under the NDP.

Great video! I've lived in Vancouver all my life. I used to live DT and now I'm in Kits. I also walk everywhere after work and on weekends. I also agree with you on the drug issue in the DTES.

I’m assuming your target audience is someone thinking about living in Vancouver short term, but I’m a Vancouver-proper resident of about 15 years, grew up in the Tri-Cities.

The lifestyle imagery used to appeal to outsiders is financially unsustainable if you live here, unless you’re rich.

My biggest gripe about this place is for the amount we pay in taxes, there is NO EXCUSE for the sheer amount of homeless and feces on the streets.

For young people wanting to start families in the 2020’s, def. NOT HERE. I grew up in the suburbs - kids really need that kind of safe community environment to grow up in, and that will be affordable for mom and dad. It’s one or the other in Vancouver.

Culture-wise - I agree that it’s hard to meet people with things in common due to the diversity our Liberal politics produce. But I also suspect that your expectation of finding a whole population in metropolitan city with the same set of values that you had in Winnipeg to be on the unreasonable side. And to pin it on residents born outside Canada - citizen or not … (cause it certainly can’t be the no nightlife, the high prices, the homeless problem, right?) … I dunno, there are better angles to take.

Ken Sim isn't an NDP representative, he's part of the local ABC party which leans very conservative actually.

Otherwise, I really enjoyed this video. As a local, you definitely covered every aspect of what it's like to live here.

You know that those gas taxes help pay for that transit which is why we have the best, and that the carbon taxes are to get people to drive less and include rebates for middle and low income people to at offset it.

Also did you know you can get a 2021 Nissan leaf electric for 25k and don’t have to pay tax on it and can get rebates for installing a charger.

Watched this right after the 1 year living in Vancouver video. I enjoyed the first video more, less political takes and more information.
