Split is not a central town in Croatia. It is a southern town on the coast. Croatia has a specific shape and no town in it is a good starting point to visit all of the country. There is more to Croatia than just the coast

Primošten, Rogoznica, Makarska Riviera, Island Rab, Lopar, Mljet, Omiš, Queens beach Nin, Hvar, Rab, Pag, Ušće Neretve near Komarna, Šibenik, Zadar...soo many better place than overhyped Dubrovnik...
