Fun fact, McQueen is actually more based off of the 2005-2006 Ford GT. While the designers did put a lot of Corvette elements into his design, he is primarily a Ford GT.
Edit: Before people start going off about how he was based off a corvette, he literally shares almost the exact same silhouette as a Ford GT. Not only that but to emphasize the difference between McQueen and Jackson Storm, the designers based Storm off of a newer Ford GT.

According to the movie, lighting McQueen is saidnto be a Ferrari, because they talk about it alot in the 1st movie. Once in the 1st race against McQueen and doc. Hudson, and again in the scene when McQueen is getting white wall tires

The Hudson hornets were some of, if not the first nascars, so the race versions were a lot faster

Hudson Hornets weren't at all slow. There were at least 8 drivers who raced them in NASCAR's Strictly-Stock Division (the equivalent of today's Cup Series), most notably Herb Thomas, who drove the number 92, and also Tim Flock and his brother Fonty Flock, who drove the number 91 and number 14, respectively. Hudson Hornets won a combined 108 races in NASCAR in the four years they ran.
