Pneumatic Cylinder Sensor Basics

Magnetic field sensors are among the most common sensing technologies. When mounted on pneumatic cylinders, they provide machine operators with closed-loop control. The sensor sees through the wall of the cylinder to the magnet that is mounted on the piston and detects its position -- whether it's fully extended, retracted, or positioned somewhere in between -- while the machine is operating. In an automated system, this allows operators to tell the cylinder what to do and then get feedback that it happened properly.
