Leslie Odom, Jr. burst onto the scene in 2015, originating the role of Aaron Burr in the Broadway musical phenomenon "Hamilton." Since then, he has performed for sold-out audiences, sung for the Obamas at the White House and won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. But before he landed the role of a lifetime in one of the biggest musicals of all time, Odom put in years of hard work as a singer and an actor. This interview made me so emotional. I love how Laura is such a huge fan and knows her subject matter. And Mr. Odom’s insight and truth are so refreshing. People don´t like to talk about failure. Only in terms "I was down, now I´m up". A friend pointed to me that it´s because we don´t like to be seen like losers.
This is so valuable, the acknowledgment of "Failure is not always getting a bad result, but not trying something because its out of your comfort zone", because we as adults are expected to "know" how to...well, everything. If we fail at learning something as adults, we feel stupid or failured and are ashamed of that. It´s nice to give ouselves a break, and treat experiences sometimes as lightly as when we were children again: It did´n wor out, ok, next...
