Funny thing is, in Roadside Picnic, the soviet era novel that inspired the movie Stalker and the subsequent game series, the Zones were created because of an event called "The Visitation" caused by alien objects landing on Earth and mutating the environment around them in several places of the world and vanishing as mysteriously as they arrived. People breaking into the Zones started calling themselves Stalkers and brought back artifacts which propelled human technology hundreds of years forward in a matter of decades. So this game is clearly a sort of love homage to the initial source of inspiration for the Stalker phenomenon, and that's frankly amazing. EDIT: Duh, it even says in the Steam page that it's based on Roadside Picnic lol

that first scene is incredibly stalker inspired, it is literally just the Rookie Village haha

I just discovered you a few weeks ago, and I'm so impressed that every day you're putting out good looking and interesting indie games. You are doing such a service to the community. Bless you from an independent game maker.

I'm from former soviet country. Yes green gates IRL were always closed, so very accurate representation in video game.

Strangling a guard with a knotted garotte? Now *that's* journalism!

This is Stalker, just with top-down view
The start Town is exactly the starter Town from Stalker 1.

I'm always too quick to jump on the stuff Splatty misses when doing these, but I really wanted to say how much I appreciate this channel and all the work you do. I get exhausted by all the games you cover, I cannot imagine being the one doing the coverage. Big ups to you sir.

A note to western game developers: despite Czechoslovakia and Soviet Union were both socialist block countries, Soviet Union never used Scorpions, never mass produced .32 ACP ammo. Scorpion is not a Soviet/post-Soviet staple gun, .32 is less common than 5.56 there. In 90s Russia small batch of Kiparis SMG was produced, which looked somewhat like oversized Scorpion in 9 mm Makarov, but that is all.

Watching somebody getting excited about a virtual shotgun is what I am here for.

this game looks amazing...on the wishlist. You cost me a lot of money Splatter. Edit: I went ahead and bought the game and both DLC before the end of the video. It's on sale right now in Steam!

there were some attempts at making STALKER with top down camera, mostly Men of War mods. But only 2 were finished - Tunguska and Zero Sievers.
The guy making the game is doing so-many-updates I can't pick the right time to start my playthrough... reminds me my dillema with ATOM RPG and Trudograd.

The Tunguska Event where something exploded in the lower atmosphere, probably a small comet or asteroid, and levelled 800-850 square miles of forest, can't recall exactly right now. Didn't even hit the ground and did a ton of damage.

Played this game - it's awesome. Big Stalker and Metro series lover here. And this game is an amazingly good one that somehow manages to recreate the same feeling. Highly recomend it!

Splat: looks like you could climb the wall over there but I don't know why you'd want to.
Also splat: IMMEDIATELY proceeds to waste a bunch of time tracking down gas to open a gate in that wall

Fun theory. The most likely scientific explanation for the Tunguska Event is a type of meteorite that has enough mass to survive entering Earths at osphere but it’s internal structure meant it exploded on the way down.
Basically like an airburst mortar/artillery but much much much more energy involved. Like move over Hiroshima levels of energy but thankfully no radioactive fallout.

Hey Splat. The eye is there because when you garrot someone, a lot of times, the eyes will pop out of their sockets because it's almost impossible to cut off the blood coming from the heart, at least when you use stranglation, because of the pressure the heart creates when it pumps. It is a lot easier to stop blood from going back to the heart because the heart has to pump the blood through a barrier in order to move the blood back to the heart. This is also why arteries spray blood and viens don't.
TL;DR When you strangle someone pressure bulds up quickly in the skull and that pops the eye balls out!
Keep up the great work!
