Fantastic video! We're thrilled to have Bret Scher on board to bring information and resources at the intersection of metabolic and mental health. Nutritional ketosis gave our son his mind back. We are hopeful that many more families like ours will benefit from this information.

I've been doing very well on a vegan ketogenic diet for the past 5 months. I was diagnosed with bipolar one disorder triggered postpartum in 2007. I didn't expect a well-formulated vegan ketogenic diet would wipe out my perimenopause symptoms, but it did. I've lost 45 pounds I gained due to perimenopause & pandemic malaise. Sugar cravings vanished. Night binges vanished. And the need to take afternoon naps vanished! Mental clarity has increased. It's very important to monitor your bipolar meds when beginning the ketogenic diet; my lithium level was affected. Also research electrolytes etc. Don't just jump in!

I've been working with the brilliant Denise Potter, a veteran ketogenic nutritionist who collaborates with The Charlie Foundation and who works with other clients living with bipolar disorder.

I've taken lithium and the MAOI tranylcypromine, since 2013, which have been as life-changing for me as my vegan ketogenic diet.

I'm deeply grateful to the Baszucki Group:
David Baszucki, Jan Ellison-Baszucki and Matt Baszucki as well as the visionary physicians Dr. Georgia Ede, , Dr. Chris Palmer, Dr. Shebani Sethi, Dr. Iain Campbell, and Dr. Bret Scher.
I look forward to seeing metabolic psychiatry help many people who suffer from all forms of mental illness!

6 months on mostly "clean" keto, keeping ketones between 1.5mmol & 3mmol. Family says they notice small changes, yet I'm personally not noticing anything big. Very glad family is noticing something. Definitely staying the course no matter what ♡♡ nice side effect is weight loss.

This new series is perfect for what we need to begin the transformation of psychiatry to finally embrace the new paradigm. Thank you so much! Let's all spread this far and wide.

I have chronic depression (dysthymia) ADD, several autoimmune diseases, hashimotos and MCAS. I’m going to try the ketogenic diet. Starting tomorrow.

My son has been recently diagnosed with csws rare epileptic condition. He's just 4 years old and already on 3 medications for controlling epilepsy. We are strongly considering keto diet along with prescribed anti-epileptic medicine. Could you please make detailed video on epilepsy and keto diet with experts? This will be helpful. I have personally observed there's deeper connection of better metabolic health with his epilepsy. Thanks for all the great work.

So that's where you went. I had your Diet Doctor podcast that suddenly stopped.

It was surprising to me to see you leave Diet Doc but I am happy to have found you here, Dr. Sher. Perhaps a better place for your inquisitive mind. Although the diet currently promoted by DD is scientifically well founded and probably doable for many, the intellectual thrill over there may have diminished a little bit. But what do i know? Keto for the mind may be the new Klondike - in the best sense ;)

Any clinical trial opportunities for Canada? I know several people who would certainly be interested. Thanks, Brett, you were excellent on diet doctor and I have seen many family members make big health changes on low carb or keto!

Using a ketogenic diet is definitely a step forward. But I want to see trials using a ketogenic-carnivore diet (i.e. a plant free, animal based diet with enough fat to induce ketosis).

The reason for that is that:
a) plant toxins such as oxalates and many other can be a factory both with a leaky BBB, and with many neuronal/psychiatric disorders

b) animal food contains many substances which are essential for a good neuronal health, such as cholesterol, omega 3s in the right form (DHA), B-vitamines, especially B-12, taurine, carnosine, carnitine, choline etc. There is a comprehensive literature on these EACH of these substances showing that these neuroprotective, so why not to use a food which contains all of these?

Good to see you, Bret. Please consider substituting the word "distress" for "illness".

I do think that therapy or just talking to a therapist is still quite useful and can be used in. conjunction with diet. And I do think that talking therapy can be useful for someone who is overweight to lose weight, just like diet can help someone with mental illness, reduce their mental illness.

I hope u can get this info to hospitals, I remember working on a psych ward in London, UK in ?? 1982. It was so sad, to see so many drugs handed out, and patients in terrible condition, and the food was awful ! carnivore is the way I think. and sunlight, and exercise.

What's your view on ketone IQ and other products to help get into ketosis? To maybe supplement on days of dropping out ??
