I’m glad you’re very respectful of the fact that the pregnancy and birth was something that you two shared with the surrogate and therefore there are some things you can’t discuss to protect the privacy of the surrogate. For example the details of the birth, I’m glad you just mentioned that you found out the surrogate was in labor and didn’t say anything about the medical aspect.

My husband, Tom, and I have been together for over 46 years now, so we were too old to adopt, however i have a brother and three sisters who have given me 10 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews. I am a retired pediatric nurse, so I was present for most of their births. I was welcomed as the co-coach in the delivery suite. The first skin contact gave me chills and great memories Tom, thank you so much for sharing! PS: I hope that you and Lance will have many siblings for Robbie to enjoy. Ray.

Robert is a great choice for a boys name - he can be Robbie when he’s little, then he has a lot of options for what he wants to be called when he’s a bit older. My Robbie tried Bob briefly, but seems to be going with Rob. 🙂

It's probably by far the most important thing you're building, having a child, forming a family, cherishing. Learning to become a parent. It takes us somewhere else. My partner and I have adopted 3 children!

thank you for sharing your stories of Robbie-Ray's birthing experience. You triggered for me the memories I have of the births of my sons, 30 years ago and 26 years ago. Each was unique and thus memorable. The first involved a 2-hour long ambulance ride for my sons' mother, with me following at speed in our car, from a small rural hospital to the city, where my son was born within minutes of arriving in the delivery room! I still remember the head nurse saying, "no one has taught this mother how to push!" The 2nd was a planned home-birth with a midwife, and it was awesome, too. It is these sorts of memories that help me continue to appreciate my sons, even into their adulthood years!

You know that feeling when you realize that you are in "over your head" so to speak, and you realize that it is very serious until you are out. That is what it was like for us with our one and only son, and I know you guys are the same. Ours is 38 years old now, and only recently have we started to relax about him.(But I must admit, I have never slept well since he was born even without him even living in the house.) Hubby and I raised him, as his birth mom wanted very little to do with him from the beginning. Great story time, that brought back many pleasant memories for us. Thanks.
