This is the animated book summary of The True Believer by Eric Hoffer.

A stevedore on the San Francisco docks in the 1940s, Eric Hoffer wrote philosophical treatises in his spare time while living in the railroad yards. The True Believer - the first and most famous of his books - was made into a bestseller when President Eisenhower cited it during one of the earliest television press conferences.Completely relevant and essential for understanding the world today, The True Believer is a visionary, highly provocative look into the mind of the fanatic and a penetrating study of how an individual becomes one.

Resumo. Pessoas entram em um movimento com: 1) Mesmas motivações, 2) Inimigo comum, 3) Escapar da impotência de não poder mudar o que lhes perturba, 4) Crença em um futuro melhor, 5) Necessidade de um forte líder.

I read the whole book when I was 20. It took awhile, it is very dense.

This only covers most of Part 1. There are two more parts to the book.

"The desire to belong is partly a desire to loose oneself!" Good selection for a quote! BTW, I also liked your animation [particularly the zooming in and out]. Did you use Doodly?

Interesting summary. Bias but interesting. One violent movement in the US was off your "example" list.

I bought this book, thinking it would help me get into the minds of people who want communism and Marxism. Comes to find out he mocked Christianity more than the Nazi regime. What wretched soul is Eric.
