In this week's narrated video I'm throwing an angular stoneware bud vase. A new form, soon to be trimmed, glazed and reduction, hopefully successfully... I've been making many larger vessels lately and I hope to upload a number of videos showing their creation. Thanks for watching, as always!

Timecodes:
0:00 - Introduction and spiral wedging clay
2:10 - The throwing begins...
7:15 - The 'rough' thrown shape
7:35 - Refining the form
11:09 - Dropping the rim
11:48 - The finished shape, for now.

It’s always satisfying to watch your tidying up process at the end.

I love getting a peak at how you maintain a clean space! I’d love to see a more in depth video about your own practices for maintaining your studio if you ever felt like it!

Also, cool transition at 1:40!

I've been practicing spiral wedging and today I finally saw progress with it, it's not perfect but the progress was definitely motivating. Your videos are always so insightful and I thank you for posting such well thought out videos. It has helped my throwing tremendously. I hope to try your vase technic in the following weeks :)

can’t wait to see how your glazed will come through on those new angles that flat opening also really helps connect your prices together as a whole!

Can you please create a video explaining how to pull and where to apply pressure to create different shapes?

that first step after opening the clay, where you collared it into a cone formation before pulling - im not sure i've seen you do that before in a video!! is there a specific reason to collar so dramatically rather than begin pulling right away?
i love this new form!!!

How much clay did you use? I am having trouble with my walls being either too thick or too thin.

Thanks for your video! When having small openings on pots, do you typically glaze the inside or leave it unglazed?

In regards to your comment about too large of an opening making the vase appear clumsy, I have experienced the same making cone shaped vases. If the opening doesn’t feel comparatively tiny to the pot itself, the entire form begins to look amateurish. I think it’s because the shape calls contrast between the bulbous body and the delicate and tiny rim, so it looks “half baked” if it’s too large

you don't remove the water from inside the pot?

"Like I keep telling myself, perhaps I may purchase one of those for myself soon"
Dude, it feels more likely you'll end up getting sponsored a mill than you buying one. Mostly cuz you just keep spiral wedging and got really fast at it.

Good work, but try as much as possible to stop using the spong while pulling the clay up, it limits the connection between the potter's hands and the clay which is very essential in throwing. You can hold it a few inches away from the pot with water in it to keep the piece wet
