This is the song that makes me the most emotional, maybe because she is sharing something very personal. She is talking directly to him like in So Long Landon. It's something that belong to them and you can feel the incomprehension, the betrayal, the longing, the pain and the feeling of loss.

for y'all who didn't understand this song, “the black dog” is her actually referring to “state of depression” not an actual bar. Taylor is KNOWN for double meanings and from ttpd I def gathered that Joe was mentally in depression (from so long London as well when she says “u sacrificed us to your blues gods or smthn don't remember the exact lyric rn” 😭) and the black dog is basically saying how he forgot her existence to his depressive state. As someone who has seen this up close y'all need to stop bullying how. This was probably her most normal respectful break up and he may not have been ready for marriage bcz of his mental state 😭

The Black Dog is also a bar in Cork Ireland. Matty Healy and The 1975 played a show near by on June 13th 2023. Taylor and Matty broke up before that around June 2nd. So The Black Dog is DEFINITELY about Matty Healy!
