Man I hated being sick. It was a legit punishment being sick in a black household. Our generation needs to stop this abuse 😂

I’m white and my mother acted the exact same way when we stayed home sick from school!!
Only instead of “sick people don’t….” She’d say “if you’re too sick to go to school you’re too sick to……”

Ha!!!

My mom's rule was: if you stay home sick, you stay in bed. No TV. No games. Maybe a book. Maybe homework.

“Let me just punish my child for something they have no control over and make them feel like they did something wrong instead of lovin on ‘em.”

My mom used to treat me like I had the plague. I pretty much tended to myself and learned to never expect her love or comfort. The one thing I can say is it definitely made me stronger in life. When my own children were younger I would take extra special care of them... Soup, ginger ale, popsicles, hourly check in and their favorite cartoons. I dreaded the sleepless nights but a mother's love... They will never forget 💖

i remember back when i was in middle school I woke up feeling horrible, I told my dad i wasn’t feeling good and he still made me go to school, my body was just straight up fatigued the whole day i couldn’t do no work, only sleep. my math teacher was cool so she sent me to the nurse’s office so i could nap during her class period, when i got to the nurse she took my temperature, not even two minutes later she was on the phone with my dad saying “your son has a fever of 104°, he should not be in school right now. you need to come pick him up.” he was SILENT on that car ride home😂

I remember my mama didn't believe me and I actually had appendicitis. She felt sooo guilty, I've been milking it ever since lol.

I’m white with a white mom but I swear that is exactly how my mother acted when we said we were sick!

I'm a black mother i acted the opposite. I grew up around family members like this. I never wanted to treat my kids this way. Both my children were premature babies and i barely got them here. I wanted to keep them here so i definitely believed them when they were sick. I guess its all about knowing your kid. If you got a child who doesn't like school you would have to watch out for them being more dramatic about little stuff lol some kids do like to stay home because they have a headache. So they have to learn about pushing more.

My mother has this conspiracy that I've faked every illness/injury I've ever had.
She still doubted me even when the doctor told her that my foot was sprained.
