The History of the Baby Stroller Mile Record

The Mile has managed to diversify itself into any possible variation of completing it. Some will do it in jeans, a gumby suit, while smashing some brewskies; anything is possible. The Baby Stroller mile, however, may have a bit more history to it than you think, and the actual record for it is even more unknown when you dig a bit further.

My two thoughts:
1. Should be a team record: Runner and baby each get credit.
2. Seems a little dangerous for the kid at those speeds. Not "Oh my God! Call CPS!" Dangerous but a little iffy, haha.

The thing with a downhill stroller mile is that you can mostly just let it roll so most of the time you aren't actually pushing the stroller since the hill will do that for you.

I’ve been boxing all my life, but I loved running the mile in high school. It was my favorite race, and I always thought in the future on my channel I’d love to make a video of a a mile run somehow combined with boxing. Always thought it would be a fun idea for entertainment.

I noticed most of them didn't bother putting the canopy down on the strollers, probably could have saved a few newtons of drag.

This got me thinking what if they worked with an engineer to make the the perfect stroller for the event? I think it could go in 2 directions. The first being a stroller which is as light and aerodynamic as possible with low rolling resistance and easy to control. The second is design a stroller more like a shopping trolley or racerunning trike which they can use to support some of their weight as they run.

I know that the marathon record for running with a stroller was recently beaten, somewhere in the 2:38 region! A good thing for you to look into is joggling (juggling and running) the official mile WR is 4:46 set way back in 1986 but I know someone unofficially beat it recently. The guy who holds the joggling marathon WR also held the stroller marathon record for many years!

I ran a 5k in a road race recently in 21 + minutes and in the last mile some guy passed me pushing a baby stroller. Yeah that was a bit embarrassing. LMAO! 🤣🤣

I have no idea how this came to be recommended to me (unless youtube is reading my strava data...). We've bought a running buggy a few weeks back and I've done quite a few with our 5month old baby in it, 27minutes for a parkrun (the mass start slows me down!), some way before I'm challenging this!
