There's two types of family in Thailand. You're either Milo family or Ovaltine family. There's no in-between.

Regarding the "below ground level" doors, there are apparently a few reasons that go back to when a lot of the buildings were constructed (late 1800s or early 1900s):

-They were repurposed from "coal doors/bunkers", where you'd bring fuel into the house for furnaces (didn't want to track coal through the actual home)
-They were repurposed from servants entrances (servants wouldn't enter through the main door, and these entrances were apparently below the stairs leading to the main parlor or position out of sight of passersby)
-Horses were still common for transportation back then, and that means manure. Therefore, you'd have stairs leading to the main door (which was sometimes below street level, in the case of shops) to get any manure off your shoes before you enter

It's been a long time since I've been to the northeastern states, but I remember Boston having a fair number of these "below ground level" entrances in the commercial areas back in the mid 1990s.

The below ground level doors is because New York is a nearly 400 year old city and the street level and new construction naturally slowly creeps higher over time, but whoever owns the building doesn’t want to rebuild it or pay for it to be lifted

In Thailand the best Milo is from the Milo Truck which sometimes come to our school to give it out for free. That is the tastiest Milo I ever drank in my life, what a childhood memories
