Curtis Childs is the digital media producer at the Swedenborg Foundation. While obtaining his degree in communication studies from Oakland University, Curtis experienced an internal battle with depression that led him to question God and his lifelong interest in Swedenborgian theology. After a period of intense suffering, he recovered from his depression with the help of modern medicine, therapy, and a return to the spiritually uplifting messages he found in Swedenborg’s writings. Now, Curtis is applying his education and desire to help others find peace through Swedenborg’s insights by producing and hosting this weekly webcast.

Rev. Dr. Jonathan S. Rose is the series editor of the New Century Edition, an ongoing project that incorporates the latest scholarship to produce a modern, accessible translation of Emanuel Swedenborg’s theological works. Holder of a B.A. and a M.Div. in religion and a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Latin, he has worked for years in the study of Neo-Latin and in Swedenborgian research. He was both chaplain and a tenured professor of religion and sacred languages at Bryn Athyn College before taking on his current position with the Swedenborg Foundation.

Wow! Jeff's story is so inspiring. Jeff alone makes all the work and effort at OTLE so worth it! I think that most people are not quite sure what's going to happen when the body dies and this is bound to cause a deep-seated anxiety. Knowing that life never ends, that death of the body is like being born into a new, more wonderful world makes everything in this life bearable and even exciting. It's an exciting mysterious adventure. To NOT believe in this would make life, and even the universe, meaningless. If people believe that life is meaningless, then this leads to the kinds of social breakdown that we see in the world today. But honest people can't believe in something like an immortal soul without convincing evidence. People like Swedenborg and the people who are sharing their NDE's provide us with the evidence. Science is a wonderful development in civilization and scientific thinking is clear thinking, but science shouldn't be confused with materialism, that matter is all there is. This is the rabbit hole western culture has gone down. Science tells us nothing about love or purpose in life, and this is what makes us human. Keep sharing the love!

Oh my, Jeff!!! Your guest story really touched me. I could listen to him again and again. I hope he's healed from the cancer and doing well. I liked his description of 'soul mate'.
