Hi Amanda,

I'm curious about how those squash balls affect your print quality. I've heard padding the feet allows for more movement of the frame which adversely affects detail. Adding some vibration deadening feet has been on my list of things to test, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I've even considered getting some isolation brackets for the stepper motors.

Please tell us more about that mat. I am so sick of using hairspray.

I must disagree with you on the mirror for a couple reasons. And let me start by saying, I took the same advice and now have a sand papered mirror leaning against my wall. First of all, mirror glass from Lowes is definitely not flat. At least the piece I got wasn't. The center was way (WAY) higher than the corners making it impossible to print on. Assuming you do get lucky, though, the thermal expansion coefficient of a mirror is significantly higher (3 times) than that of the borosilicate glass it came with, and as such, you may find that you have to level it at the temperature you plan to print at. Add to that the aluminum layer on the back and it may be even worse. And finally, the safety concern. Unless you diligently sanded all of the edges and corners, you can get cut pretty badly by that mirror. The edges on the piece I got were like razors.
