Music from "The Fellowship of the Ring" composed, orchestrated and conducted by Howard Shore.

"I wanted to score these scenes in a primal way," says Shore. "They had to have a brutality to them."
Shore's music inhales and exhales slowly with the struck Boromir. "I was trying to capture the movement - the breathing, the
organic feeling - to make it feel like the music was part of the scene. I used these swells, not too much, but just so that it gave the scene that life."

8:38-9:17 that extra 39 seconds has become one of my favourite moments in the whole trilogy. Merry and Pippin are fighting alongside Boromir, and Pippin uses a technique that Boromir uses seconds before to show that they did learn from him. Then the rock throwing, Boromir swinging with all his might, and the Uruk-Hai just coming at full strength, and the three continued to hold until Boromir could fight no longer.

I have to say, I admire Boromir as a character. He had flaws like the rest of us, but he still had honor.

10:06 Gets me man, the part where Boromir knows he's been fatally wounded but he refuses to give up and leave Merry and Pippin to suffer and die at the Uruks hands, fighting desperately to protect his friends.

7:30 This is the last time the song ramps up for the Heroes, feeling the pressure adding. The beating of the wardrums becoming heavier, Boromir prolonging Merry and Pippin's survival.
8:00 The soundtrack shifts completely, now the Uruk-Hai have the upper-hand, swarming toward the Halflings and Boromir..

I feel so privileged I got to see this in the theatre. Multiple times. The atmosphere was phenomenal, unforgettable. I always felt bad for not having watched Aliens, The Thing, the original Blade Runner, The Hitcher, Platoon, Interstellar and 1917 in the theatre but at least I got to see Saving Private Ryan, Titanic and the LOTR trilogy. Because there simply are movies that should be experienced this way.

Fun fact: the melody that plays from 12:20 through 13:40 is again played in two other non-related scenes in the movies. Both in the ROTK, when Theoden is comforting Eowyn before their departure at Dunharrow, and the other is a shorter version when Frodo is writing in the red book at the end of the movie and Sam walks in as he finishes it.

“From the Gate of Kings, the North Wind rides and past the roaring falls, and clear and cold about the Tower it’s loud horn calls.

What news from the North oh mighty wind do you bring to me today? What news of Boromir the tall? For he is long away.

Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry; there many foes he fought. His cloven shield, his broken sword they to the water brought. His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest, and Rauros, golden Rauros Falls, bore him upon its breast.

Oh Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze. To Rauros, golden Rauros Falls, until the end of days.”

Legolas: "Boromir's blowing his horn. He's in trouble."

Aragorn: "And you left him alone, you moron? Do you know who's playing him?"

Legolas: "Yeah, Sean Bean."

Aragorn: "And do you know what happens to Sean Bean in everything he's in, you stupid blond?"

Legolas: "He gets k... HOLY SHIT!"

6:19 - 7:19 is my favorite bit from my favorite track from my FAVORITE movie in the trilogy. The way Shore manages to capture the woodsy setting AND simultaneously convey Frodo's heartbreak in letting Merry/Pippin know he has to go alone -- AND -- their mixed realization, quick thinking, and self-endangerment to buy him time. That alone is such a musical feat but to have it segue into A/L/G fighting is just .... FUCKING CHILLS every time. No scene will ever feel so perfectly paired to the music for me, except perhaps Weathertop.

Who else's brain automatically inserts Boromir's horn blasts at 8:00?
